The Cape Fear cultivar originated in Willard, N.C. at the North Carolina agricultural experiment station, as an offspring of the Schley cultivar. The shell has dark stripes and the pecan kernels are creamy to golden brown in color. This is a very prolific pecan, ripening in late mid-season. There are many pecan growers that believe this is the pecan of the future. It is a strong tree that retains its leaves late into autumn, making for a beautiful addition to the lawn. Since the Cape Fear ripens in mid to late October, it is sure to attract wildlife to your yard. These pecan trees produce a large, thin shelled nut that cracks easily.
