The York Elderberry was cultivated in New York and inroduced in 1964. It is a vigourous grower with a spreading growth habit, and produces large clusters of white flowers from May through June, which ripen into large purple fruits in August. Fruits can be used for wine, juice, jams and jellies, or for drying. The flowers and also be dried and used for tea or wine. Responds well to pruning which is recommended to maintain a useable size. Very attractive as a food crop for wildlife. Pollinate with any other American Elderberry.
